‘”Whisperer” of Palme d’Or: Neon Continues Reign in Selecting Cannes Winners”

A standalone movie distribution company established eight years back has chosen the top film at the Cannes Film Festival for an impressive six successive years now.

Neon, a film production company based in New York, has earned the nickname “the Palme d’Or whisperer” due to its impressive success rate.

Following the success with “Parasite,” “Titane,” “Triangle of Sadness,” “Anatomy of a Fall,” and last year’s victor “Anora,” they hit another jackpot on Saturday by acquiring the U.S. distribution rights for Jafar Panahi’s film “It Was Just an Accident.”

The neon company secured the rights to the Iranian filmmaker’s newest movie prior to Saturday evening’s award show during a negotiation held along the French coastline.

“The Dream Team,” the firm posted on X, enumerating its six prior successes.

Neon acquires — and more recently, has also started producing — movies which it subsequently releases to theaters. Additionally, they manage marketing and award campaign efforts for these films.

It similarly acquired the North American distribution rights for “Sentimental Value,” directed by Norway’s Joachim Trier, which was awarded the second prize Grand Prix on Saturday.

The winner of a special jury prize, rave-themed road trip movie “Sirat”, will also be released by Neon.

Tom Quinn established the company after spending many years collaborating with producers like Harvey Weinstein on independent films, ultimately choosing to venture out independently.
