‘I believe fear is how they triumph, first off. So, continue sharing tales and articulating your thoughts,’ Pascal stated, eliciting applause from the crowd.
“And screw the people who try to scare you; you know, put up a fight. Don’t let them win,” he said, eliciting cheers from the gathered journalists.

Aster, who is 38 years old, took notice of the actor’s response at Cannes—and acknowledged the perilous nature of the boundary-breaking character Eddington. He confessed, “To be honest, I’m frightened of pretty much anything and everything all the time.” He continued with a hint of humor, stating, “‘So when I said that, my tongue was partly in jest. However, it holds some truth as well.'”
Eddington’s initial reception at Cannes from critics has been mixed and rather subdued.

was also asked to comment on Latin migrants in America and if he feared it would become ‘an absolutely closed country to the world’.
‘It’s clearly quite daunting for an actor involved in a film to discuss such matters. The topic feels overwhelmingly intense for me to tackle directly,’ he said initially, then added that his aim was ‘to ensure people stay safe and secure, and I strongly wish to align myself with what will be viewed favorably in historical retrospect.’
He shared his personal story of being an immigrant and refugee from Chile alongside his parents.

‘We escaped from a dictatorship, and I was fortunate enough to be raised in the United States and later in Denmark after receiving asylum. If not for that, I can only imagine how different our lives might have been, which is why I consistently support such protective measures.’
He modestly responded: “I’m quite apprehensive about your question; I can barely recall what it entailed.”
During the opening of the conference, he made a joke about being intimidated by some of Aster’s earlier films. He expressed surprise that the director didn’t turn out to be as pompous and harsh as he expected, finding quite the contrary to be true.
Actor Joaquin Phoenix, aged 50, added with a laugh that his experience collaborating with Aster this time has been ‘more enjoyable’ following their earlier movie together.

Pascal revealed that he was ‘afraid to go back’ and examine his own experience during the pandemic for his role in Eddington as he was ‘isolated and in relationship to my algorithm’.

‘I felt that [Aster] penned something capturing all my greatest anxieties about the lockdown experience and its promises, particularly how it exacerbated the fractures within an already fragmented society.’
The Oscar-winning actress, who is 36 years old, further commented: “Exploring some elements featured in this movie that weren’t part of my initial search terms ended up being included in my searches! Since once you begin looking these things up online, you keep coming across additional information, making it quite a deep rabbit hole really fast. Thus, regrettably, I’m still encountering all sorts of wild stuff!”
The film Eddington made its debut at the Cannes Film Festival and is scheduled for release in the United States on July 18. A specific date for its release in the UK has not been announced yet.
