Fiat Unveils the Cutest Electric Three-Wheeler I’ve Ever Laid Eyes On

Let me drive it.

Everyone needs to pause their current activities, set aside your coffee mugs, offer thanks however you choose, and prepare yourself for the awe-inspiring sight of the new Fiat Tris three-wheeler—a fully electric solution designed specifically for short-distance travel. This remarkable little vehicle captures the essence of Italy’s iconic delivery vehicles with perfect fidelity.

I mean, how cute is this thing?!

Could you imagine being at the Amalfi Coast, enjoying an espresso, looking out over the Mediterranean Sea, munching on a scrumptious croissant filled with delightful orange marmalade, while watching the Fiat Tris deliver fresh catches for the nearby restaurant? Picture this: The Tris navigating through Rome’s busy narrow lanes without making much noise; instead of the usual loud two-stroke engine, it runs quietly like a charming little helper bringing items ranging from freshly-baked goodies all the way up to a complete-sized Vespa scooter to the local repair shop.

I desire this existence. I embrace this truth. I yearn for this charming Fiat Trionfetta, and may I wear a small cap as I cherish every moment of my ideal days along the picturesque Sicilian shoreline. Fiat, for the sake of everything sacred and in honor of our newly appointed Pope, grant me this wish. Allow me to cruise around in the Trionfetta.

Even though it has great aesthetics, the Fiat Tris marks the company’s inaugural three-wheeled vehicle. You might not have encountered anything like it previously; however, the Tris bears some resemblance to the

Piaggio Ape

, which has remained one of the most recognizable designs since its introduction shortly after World War II. While there seems to be some influence drawn from the Ape, I’ll leave it to Piaggio’s legal team to address just how much.

Fiat says the Tris is intended primarily for short-distance deliveries in big cities, although initially it will hit markets in Africa and the Middle East rather than starting off in its home country of Italy, despite its appearance. The model comes in three versions: Flat Bed, Pickup, and Chassis-Cabin. According to Fiat, these options offer “maximum adaptability” to meet various professional requirements.

The small tricycle runs on a 6.9 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, according to Fiat, providing up to 90 kilometres (or about 55 miles) of travel distance. This system includes a 48-volt electric motor delivering approximately 12 horsepower and 33 lb-ft of torque, with a maximum velocity capped at around 28 mph. Despite these modest power figures, the vehicle tips the scales at just 2,200 lbs and can carry more than 1,000 pounds—equivalent to roughly three standard motorcycles.

According to Fiat, “The charging process has been crafted with ease and convenience in mind. With its built-in intelligent charging technology, TRIS can go from 0 to 80 percent battery level in merely 3.5 hours, fully charged within 4 hours and 40 minutes when plugged into an ordinary household outlet. This feature enables professionals to conveniently top up their vehicles either during off-hours or shift breaks, thereby maintaining high levels of operational readiness and productivity throughout each day.”

The pricing for the Fiat Tris has not been announced yet; however, the firm asserts that this model aims to support expanding urban areas in developing countries. These regions see consistent growth annually. Ideally, it would reach Italy too, though personally, I wouldn’t mind testing out the Tris in Morocco should the opportunity arise.

Trikes!
