Kathmandu, May 30 – The government has earmarked NPR 6.08 billion for the youth and sports sector for the coming fiscal year 2025-26, marking the largest allocation ever made for this sector. This represents an increment of NPR 258 million compared to the present fiscal year’s budget.
On Thursday, Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel announced during his budget presentation that plans include constructing an international-standard stadium in Damak, Jhapa, suitable for all types of sports events. Additionally, they aim to develop high-altitude sports facilities in Solukhumbu, Mustang, and Jumla.
The government has set aside Rs400 million for upgrading the TU International Cricket Ground and provided Rs420 million for finishing cricket stadiums currently being built in Mulpani, Kailali, Chitwan, and Morang districts. Additionally, they have committed a conditional grant to obtain the property at the Gautam Buddha International Cricket Stadium located in Chitwan.
In the meantime, the finance minister disclosed that Rs540 million has been set aside for the 10th National Games in Karnali.
Money has likewise been allocated for sports academies in a minimum of three schools within every province.
Athletes who win medals at international competitions will get bonuses, and their offspring will receive scholarship opportunities. Additionally, a distinct award has been set aside for the top female athlete of the year.
