What do you reckon Bob Lutz would make of this?
Maybe we’re soothsayers? Maybe
Nestheo
Has it broadened our mental vision and glimpsed the future via the fifth dimension? Perhaps we brought this into being ourselves, following the publication of our tale about how
GM’s latest electric car battery
might hold the secret to bringing electric motorcycle technology into greater prominence, as pointed out by our colleagues over at
Visordown
found a patent that the company applied for specifically for that.
No, seriously, based on the patents uncovered by the outlet, GM is exploring the development of its own electric motorcycle that appears, unexpectedly, quite impressive. It’s definitely along the lines of what I would have expected.
I hope Harley-Davidson would currently be working on this.
, such as a compact electric motocross-style bike that’s ideal for attracting younger audiences.
Go ahead, GM, follow Honda’s lead and manufacture it.

According to the patent illustrations, the electric motorcycle conceptualized by GM has a strong scrambler style, featuring knobby tires, a remotely mounted rear shock absorber, and a front fender. Additionally, the frame appears quite simple and sleek, since the primary fuel tank section of the bike is barely noticeable and seamlessly transitions into the saddle.
In addition, under what appears to be the “tank,” you’ll find a replaceable battery pack, whereas the motor is located inside the rear wheel hub. The overall design seems reminiscent of a General Motors take on bikes from brands like Sur-Ron or Niu, among others similar compact e-dirt-bikes. This comparison isn’t meant negatively; I’ve mentioned before that such electric motorcycles represent the future for attracting younger generations to riding.
Seriously,
More children are using these.
Compared to traditional petrol vehicles nowadays, it’s about time the industry focuses more on them rather than lamenting over how young people aren’t riding motorcycles as much! Yesterday, I came across another post from someone claiming to be an “industry insider” on LinkedIn making exactly this point. It was all I could do to refrain from calling them out for being ignorant.
Beyond these details, not much is known about GM’s electric motorcycle patent, which was submitted several years back but has only become publicly available recently. This could indicate that GM might launch it soon. However, one key uncertainty lingers: What branding will they choose? Will it carry a Chevy badge, or perhaps adopt their “AT” line used for off-road trucks since this bike appears geared towards rugged terrain? Additionally, an important consideration is its price point—how affordable will this new ride be?
I’m really looking forward to testing out GM’s latest offering.
AT EV trucks
But I’d be even more excited to see this in bed as well.
