Grace Charis-Bassey discusses the changes in the US.
When discussing her transition during her naval training, Grace Charis-Bassey stated that the path was challenging because of her age.
She mentioned that she felt joyful about realizing her aspirations, pointing out that life in the United States differed significantly from what she experienced in Nigeria.
The ex-actress mentioned that her experience with naval life wasn’t completely unfamiliar since she had attended the Nigerian Naval Academy in Port Harcourt, located in Rivers State. Additionally, her dad had served as a Navy commander until his retirement.
In her words:
Prior to enlisting in the Navy, I found myself becoming complacent in my acting career. I sensed stagnation and realized I was no longer contributing significantly to the film world. Everything began to feel monotonous; merely another source of income. The influence my work once had seemed diminished, and making an impression has always been important to me. I didn’t wish to simply be yet another actress producing films nobody saw.
“I began to lose sight of my own identity as I delved deeper into the roles I portrayed. I became unsure of who I truly was. Acting defined my sense of self so profoundly that without it, I felt lost. I needed time to reconnect with my core and find out who I genuinely am again. This process lasted quite some time. While others simply observed that I wasn’t around much, the reality was that I had been absent for more than a year,” she revealed.
