Water Park Unveils Exciting Opening Date!

Despite concerns regarding local wildlife, a new water park will be opening this coming summer.

The attraction will open at Cosmeston Country Park on 5 July, Vale of Glamorgan Council has announced, after it entered into an agreement with Aqua Park Group to trial a water park during the summer months.

Residents and councillors raised concerns about the plans, but council officials insisted conditions would be in place to protect wildlife and the attraction would be restricted to the eastern side of the lake.

The water park will resemble the

, including an obstacle course equipped with inflatables, slides, and climbing structures.

The attraction was relocated due to water quality issues that rendered it “inoperable” at the bay.

Marcus Goldsworthy, who leads Place Services for the council, stated that relocating the attraction offers a chance for the council to boost revenue dedicated to enhancing amenities within Cosmeston Park, as reported.

Nonetheless, worries regarding the potential consequences persist, as evidenced by a petition against the proposals which has amassed 3,965 signatures up until now.

During a scrutiny committee gathering in March, Conservative council member Anthony Ernest expressed growing concern regarding the proposed water park’s possible effects as he learned more details about the plan.

In the meantime, Elliot Penn, who serves as a Labour council member, questioned the procedures for monitoring water quality at the location.

Mr. Goldsworthy mentioned that the water at Cosmeston undergoes testing biannually to guarantee the maintenance of its quality. He also noted that the lake has previously hosted aquatic activities.

The cabinet member for sustainable places at Vale of Glamorgan Council, Bronwen Brooks, stated that the water park would serve as an excellent enhancement to the impressive facilities already available at Cosmeston Country Park.

The consultation with locals via the council’s placemaking initiatives revealed significant interest regionally—especially amongst younger demographics—for an increased variety of recreational pursuits. Re-establishing aquatic-centric events at Cosmeston will assist us in making certain that all our country parks cater to every member of the community,” she stated.

By the end of September, the council plans to assess the water park pilot and determine whether they should invite bids from operators interested in running the facility next year.
